FAHASS is a recognized testing location for people wanting to know their HIV status. Two types of free HIV tests are available, the OraSure and the OraQuick Advance.
Testing Schedule:
OraQuick Rapid Testing, 20 minute results: Monday – Thursday, 9.00 am – 3.00 pm
OraSure Testing, 3-5 day results: Monday – Friday, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
Appointments are helpful but not required. Knowing your status helps you in maintaining proper health care.
OraSure Test
The OraSure test enables the collection of an oral fluid sample for use with a lab-based screening test that delivers accurate results for antibodies to HIV-1. Results are received in three days and can be collected in person at FAHASS. Positive screening tests are followed by an OraSure HIV-1 Western Blot.
OraQuick ADVANCE Test
The OraQuick ADVANCEHIV-1/2 Antibody Test (OraQuick) is a screening test for HIV-1 and HIV-2. It also detects antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 using an oral fluids sample. Test results are provided in twenty minutes. As with all HIV screening tests, a reactive test result needs to be confirmed by an additional, Western Blot confirmatory test.
What to expect from an HIV test counseling session:
Counseling for rapid HIV tests
Information about the importance of HIV testing
Ways to reduce the risk of becoming infected with HIV
Next steps for people who have a reactive test result
Need for additional testing in people who have had a recent exposure to HIV
Knowing your status helps you in maintaining proper health care.
Testing is free!
