FAHASS is a recognized testing location for people wanting to know their HIV status.
Alere Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo Test
Alere Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo is intended for use as a point-of-care test to aid in the diagnosis of infection with HIV-1 and HIV-2, including an acute HIV-1 infection, and may distinguish acute HIV-1 infection from established HIV-1 infection when the specimen is positive for HIV-1 p24 antigen and negative for anti-HIV-1 and anti-HIV-2 antibodies.
Alere Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo is the first and only FDA-approved rapid point-of-care test that detects both HIV-1/2 antibodies and free HIV-1 p24 antigen, which can appear just 12-26 days after infection. HIV-1/2 antibodies first appear significantly later – 20–45 days after infection.
Fourth Generation HIV testing provides a new advantage in the fight against HIV/AIDS—the ability to identify HIV earlier than 2nd and 3rd generation antibody-only tests, which rely solely on the presence of HIV 1/2 antibodies.
Step 1 - Collect a small blood sample from a finger stick.
Step 2 - Insert the device into the buffer with the sample.
Step 3 - Read the results at 20 minutes.
We no longer do a Western Blot for a confirmatory test. We now use INSTI which is a 60 second confirmatory. The INSTI confirmatory test is completed when a preliminary reactive test is received with the Alere Determine. The INSTI delivers accurate results for HIV antibodies in 60 seconds.
Each test is conducted by a trained and certified HIV testing and prevention counselor who is able to discuss confidential issues in a comfortable and non-judgmental setting. A counseling session might discuss some of the following topics:
-
Information about the importance of HIV testing and how often someone should be tested
-
Education on the methods of HIV and STD transmission
-
Ways to reduce the risk of becoming infected with HIV and other STDs
-
Need for additional testing in people who have had a recent exposure to HIV
-
Next steps for people who have a reactive test result
